As the only freestanding children's hospital in Arizona, many of our clinical programs are the only facilities in the state where children can receive specialized pediatric services. At Phoenix Children's, we know that the treatment of children doesn't end with doctors and nurses. It's a team approach, and our support programs and services help children and families cope with a diagnosis and hospital stay. Although services like our award-winning child life program, 1 Darn Cool School, the Emily Center library, our pet therapy program, and more, are not covered by insurance, they are crucial elements in treating our patients and families.
Approximately half of the patients treated at Phoenix Children's have little or no private medical insurance. Each year, Phoenix Children's provides tens of millions of dollars in uncompensated care to Arizona's most vulnerable children. We have a commitment to provide the very best medical care to all patients, regardless of a family's ability to pay.
Medical research allows us to discover new ways to diagnose, treat and manage disease. Each year, Phoenix Children's is proud take part in hundreds of ongoing clinical research studies that require funding of personnel, equipment and space.
To adequately meet the healthcare needs of our community's growing population, our Hospital must grow too. Phoenix Children's has implemented a strategic growth plan that includes new patient facilities and ambulatory clinics.
Our wide-ranging community outreach programs have a simple goal; to prevent children from having to come to Phoenix Children's in the first place. Our programs address injury prevention, child abuse prevention, promote fitness, and work to strengthen families. In addition, our mobile healthcare units make it possible for our Hospital reach at-risk children who can't come to us.
